Spanish Heritage

Spanish Rum

While Spanish rum may not be the first to come to mind for many rum enthusiasts, it remains an integral part of Southern Europe’s rich cultural heritage. In the sun-drenched south of Spain, nestled in the town of Salobreña, lies Azucarera del Guadalfeo—a historic rum and sugarcane refinery founded in 1861. The region once thrived with a vibrant rum and sugarcane industry, especially in the wake of Spain's loss of control over Cuba.

Although the Azucarera del Guadalfeo distillery ceased operations in the late 2010s—its production taken over by a newer, larger, and more advanced facility nearby—the original site still stands as a silent monument to the area's proud industrial past. Far from forgotten, it continues to play a quiet role in Spain's rum legacy, housing thousands of aging barrels within its weathered walls.

At Vesper Rum, we recognize and honor the enduring craftsmanship of Spanish rum. Each drop speaks of history, heritage, and the passion that once echoed through the halls of distilleries like Azucarera del Guadalfeo.
